Pre-premiere screening of “Bacewicz x Bomsori” in Edinburgh

As part of the Focus on Poland series of events dedicated to Polish music, the Edinburgh International Festival hosted a preview screening of the short documentary film Bacewicz x Bomsori. The film introduces two outstanding artists: South Korean violinist Bomsori Kim and Grażyna Bacewicz, one of the most important figures in 20th-century Polish music. What do these two figures have in common? A unique image created by director Jakub Piątek.
The “Bacewicz x Bomsori” film tells the story of outstanding South Korean violinist Bomsori Kim’s preparing for a live performance of Grażyna Bacewicz’s Polish Rhapsody for Violin and Orchestra in National Forum of Music in Wrocław, Poland on the 7th of March, 2025. While discovering the piece, the violinist simultaneously gets to know the composer better.
The film reveals the story of the discovery of forgotten musical works and their bringing back to the stages. “Bacewicz x Bomsori” is an intimate portrait of concert violinist and musician who sacrifices a lot in the name of the art and music.
The preview screening of Bacewicz x Bomsori took place on 13 August 2025 at 7:30 p.m. at the Dominion Cinema in Edinburgh. After the screening, the audience participated in a Q&A session with Bomsori Kim and had the opportunity to listen to her solo performance of Grażyna Bacewicz’s Polish Caprice, a piece recorded by Bomsori Kim for Deutsche Grammophone in June 2025.
The event was organised by Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne as part of the ‘Sounds of Poland. Bacewicz’ project in cooperation with the Polish Institute in London, the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Edinburgh and the Polish Film Club ‘Borscht’.
